Melagen Oil – Key Ingredients, Benefits, Indications and Uses
Introduction:
Melagen Oil is a proprietary blend of plant oils from Planet Ayurveda® used for a variety of skin disorders. As the name suggests, it regulates melanin levels in the skin. What is melanin?
Melanin is a natural polymer formed from the amino acid tyrosine. Its amount in the skin determines the natural color of the eyes, hair and skin. Regular external use can stimulate the melanin-producing cells (melanocytes), support the natural pigmentation of the skin and maintain the integrity of the skin. Combining ancient Ayurvedic wisdom with modern quality standards, Melagen Oil offers a safe and herbal alternative for supportive care of chronic pigmentation disorders.
Please note: this oil is for external use only, not for internal use.
Ingredients:
Melagen Oil contains the following ingredients:
• Stri Kutaja
• Bakuchi
• Coconut Oil
• Manjishtha
• Neem
Ingredient Description:
1. Stri Kutaja (Wrightia tinctoria)
Also known as Pala Indigo or Sweet Indrajao. Balances Pitta and Kapha dosha. The triterpenoids (Cycloartenol, Cycloeucalenol, β-Amyrin, β-Sitosterol) found in the leaves protect melanocytes from oxidative stress and regulate tyrosinase activity, preventing excessive pigmentation. It also balances melanin synthesis, ensuring an even skin tone.
2. Bakuchi (Psoralia corylifolia)
Also known as Babchi. The seeds, roots and leaves are valued for skin problems. The active ingredients are Bakuchiol, Psoralen, Isopsoralen, Corylifolin and essential oils. The taste is Katu (pungent) and Tikta (bitter); balances Vata and Kapha doshas and acts as a Kushtaghana (alleviating skin diseases). According to Ayurveda, Bakuchi is a Rasayana (rejuvenating agent) for the skin — restores complexion, evens pigmentation and helps prevent recurrence of chronic skin problems.
3. Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera)
Oil obtained from ripe coconuts balances Pitta and Vata doshas. Rich in medium chain triglycerides (MCT), phenolic compounds and phytohormones (cytokinins, gibberellins). Acts as a natural emollient, moisturizes the skin and strengthens the skin’s protective barrier. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties protect the skin, stimulate collagen and help with scar healing. Its antimicrobial properties make coconut oil particularly useful for fungal infections, acne and eczema.
4. Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia)
Also known as Manjeeth or Indian madar. Balances Pitta and Kapha doshas. The roots contain bioactive anthraquinones (munjistin, purpurin, rubiadin), flavonoids, glycosides, saponins and terpenoids. Supports Raktashodhana (blood purification), which makes it effective in Kushtha Roga (skin diseases). Manjishtha acts as an antioxidant, protects against UV radiation, cleanses the skin and accelerates the recovery of scars and chronic skin problems.
5. Neem (Azadirachta indica)
One of the most well-known plants in Ayurveda. The leaves contain active compounds such as Azadirachtin, Nimbin, Nimbidin, Nimbosterol and β-sitosterol. Balances Pitta and Kapha doshas. Works effectively in Raktavikara (blood and skin inflammations). Helps reduce pigmentation disorders, soothes inflammation, and supports an even, healthy-looking skin tone.
