Lakshadi Thailam is a well-known traditional Ayurvedic medicinal oil used to strengthen bones, muscles and joints. It is made from the resin of Laksha (Laccifer lacca) along with other plant extracts that support bone health and is processed in a base of sesame oil.
Ayurveda describes it as particularly beneficial in cases of bone weakness, fractures, slow healing, rickets and osteopenia or osteoporosis. Due to its nourishing and anti-inflammatory properties, it is suitable for promoting healthy growth in children and for maintaining bone strength and flexibility in adults.
Externally, Lakshadi Thailam is used for therapeutic massage (Abhyanga) to support proper bone development, reduce muscle and joint pain and improve mobility.
Ingredients:
1. Laccifer Lacca (lac resin)
The main component of Lakshadi Thailam is lac resin, which is rich in natural esters, polyphenols and resin acids. These compounds provide adhesive, restorative and tissue repair-supporting properties.
Laki resin stimulates collagen synthesis, contributing to the recovery and healing of bone and connective tissue after fractures or degenerative changes.
2. Tila Taila (sesame oil)
Sesame oil in Lakshad Thailam has a soothing, nourishing and anti-inflammatory effect on Vata. It supports joint health, improves blood circulation, strengthens and regenerates tissues.
The most important active ingredients are sesamol, sesamin, sesamolin and vitamin E, as well as minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc, which nourish tissues, reduce inflammation and improve the absorption of active ingredients.
3. Curcuma Longa (turmeric)
In the Ayurvedic tradition, curcumin is considered an excellent remedy for balancing excess Vata dosha.
It has strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help reduce pain and swelling in bones and joints and accelerate healing by stimulating collagen production — an important component in bone regeneration and healing after injuries or fractures.
4. Rubia Cordifolia (Manjistha)
Manjistha is known as a blood purifier and a plant that balances Pitta and Kapha doshas.
It contains phytochemicals such as purpurin, manjisthin, and xanthopurpurin, and glycosides such as rubiadine and rubiprazine, which reduce inflammation, act as antioxidants, and purify the blood.
Manjistha helps reduce inflammation and swelling in bones and joints, improves blood circulation, and accelerates healing and relieves pain.
